Designing a layout collection

Modified on Wed, 29 Jul 2020 at 02:10 PM

After setting up a layout collection, you may create your layouts in the layout editor.

To open your layout collection in the editor, hover over its thumbnail in the Publisher portal's Layout tab. Single pages layout collections are displayed first; scroll down if need be to see the Cover page collections.

The first page of a collection is displayed as its thumbnail, or it will be blank if no pages have been created yet. Note that the publication status (published or hidden) is displayed under its name.

To design layout pages, hover over the collection then click Edit Layout.

Pages are created in the layout editor. The layout editor shares the same tool set as the yearbook page editor, with a few extra features. The following information will only detail the parts of the layout editor that are unique to it.

To learn about building pages with frames, shapes, text, backgrounds, elements and photos, consult the yearbook app's knowledge base section on Candid page design.

Adding pages to your collection

When your layout collection launches in the layout editor, click on the Designer tab (left side) to check out your book.

Single page layouts are built on a standard 8.5x11 page size.

This is how the first page of a new blank collection will appear at first launch under the Designer tab. Check the book out to start.

Covers are designed on 11x17 pages. Spines will not appear in the layout editor.

Do not be concerned if your company's page sizes do not match this dimensions: layouts will automatically resize to fit your school's page sizes when they are applied in your book.

Under the Designer Tools area, you may add up to 100 pages to your collection, duplicate a selected page, or remove the selected page. Click on the Pages tab in the bottom left corner to open or shut the page thumbnail view of your entire project.

Note that you cannot move pages to a new order - they will not appear as a book but as single page thumbnails in your school's yearbook editor, so page order is not important.

Adding content to your pages

To build a page layout, simply add image frames, shapes and text frames to your pages. Add backgrounds and decorations, using the MementoPix collection or your own elements.

Navigate through your pages using the > arrow next to your page, or the Pages thumbnail view by clicking on any page.

Completing your work

Your work will save automatically as you make changes. When you are done designing, click Close in the top right corner to return to the Publisher Portal's Layouts tab.

If your layout collection is ready to share with your schools, click on the layout's Settings button to publish it.

You as a publisher may edit or delete a layout within a collection at any time - but schools with the layout in their book will not see any changes. Layouts are added as copies to your school's books, and do not refer back to the original layout. If they need to see changes you made to a layout, they will need to reapply it to their page in their book editor.

!!Be very careful when deleting pages within collections or collections as a whole - deletion is permanent and your work cannot be recovered!!
